The swim starts at Dundag beach and follows a parallel course with the shoreline until it makes a right hand turn into Dundag Bay and finishing at the boat house. Dundag Masters will be supervising the swim and coordinating water safety on the day. The water is of a very high quality and is constantly being refreshed from the surrounding mountains. Swimmers will have the comfort of swimming relatively close to shore but will experience open water conditions. It will be well supervised by experienced open water swimmers, kayakers, divers and water rescue units.

The swim is also unique from spectators’ perspective as they will be able to follow the course of the swim around the peninsula. Normally swimmers would be far out and difficult to observe.

Transition will be adjacent to the boathouse where competitors will run with their bikes to the arboretum car park and begin their cycle from here. The Triathlon is being timed by Precision Timing.

The cycle route will take you  into town and around the Killarney countryside with views of the mountains. The course will be mixed with a good climb and decent on Loreto road. The course will be well marshaled and signposted and marshals will be in radio contact with each other. Tri-athletes will return to the transition area via the entrance to Torc Waterfall and along the Park road that leads to Muckross House.

The run brings you up towards Muckross House and on up to the Jaunting Car Entrance to the Park where you will return to finish along the avenue leading to Muckross House all within the grounds of the Muckross Estate. The course is outlined in the map below.

The Lions club hope to build on the experience gained here and eventually run a full distance triathlon event with Muckross Lake for the swim and the Ring of Kerry as the cycle route.
